Antiproliferative Factor from Interstitial Cystitis Patients
Antiproliferative Factor Sialoglycopeptide
was isolated from the bladder of the patients with interstitial cystitis.
APF Sialoglycopeptide
exerts the following disease-related activities: 1) inhibition of normal bladder epithelial cell growth, 2) inhibition of
3
H-thymidine incorporation into the same cell and 3) decrease of heparin-binding epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like growth factor production, and proliferation. The peptide without the carbohydrate moiety was found to be inactive, strongly indicating that the carbohydrate attachment onto this peptide is critical for elicting the activity.
Chemists in the division of carbohydrate chemistry at Peptide Institute, Inc. have succeded in the total synthesis of
APF Sialoglycopeptide
, so that this glycopeptide can be made available for our research customers concerning the pathogenesis of interstitial cystitis and ultimately for the development of a cure for this particular disease.
