The antimicrobial peptide Human Beta-Defensin-2 was originally isolated from skin cells from Psoriasis-patients. The expression of hBD-2 by skin cells is a direct response to a local infection by Pseudomonas aeruginosa or other bacteria. Peptide LL-37 and hBD-2 might be able to protect the skin of patients with psoriasis and both peptides may be involved in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.
